Kill Team - The missing lore of Typhon

Image
The other day I was organizing the Kill Team dossiers on my bookshelf, and at a certain point I noticed something odd. The title of the dossier “Typhon” has nothing to do with the others—nor even with the dossier itself. Put like that, it makes no sense, but let me explain. Every dossier (actually, every manual or book in general) has a title that in some way foreshadows, or at least hints at, the events/content of the dossier itself. That’s pretty obvious, right? The title of the dossier “Hivestorm” clearly foreshadows the blitz by the T’au invasion forces on the Imperial world of Volkus. The title of the dossier “Brutal and Cunning” points to the duality of the two forces at play—Orks and Ratlings—and their approach to the clash set in the Undermuzzle Barrens. The same thing happens, more or less, in “Blood and Zeal” , where the followers of the god Khorne (Khorne → blood/skulls) face off against the fanatical religious zeal of the Ministorum members in the streets of the Cascab...

Kill Team – Reflections on the Challenges of Balancing

Image
As we know, the Balance Dataslate for Kill Team is published quarterly. This is a set of rule adjustments (the so-called buffs and nerfs) aimed at rebalancing the power level of the factions being played. This balancing is theoretically based on results from various events recorded on BCP (Best Coast Pairings) over a certain period. Surely there are also other "hidden" data points on which certain decisions are based, but BCP statistics remain a solid potential indicator. Moreover, it has been repeatedly stated that a healthy meta is when most factions have a win rate between 55% and 45%. I won’t evaluate the latest Balance Dataslate or comment on the current state of the meta—this article isn’t about that. Instead, I’d like to reflect with you on some factors that might actually make Kill Team a very difficult game to balance. But first, a couple of disclaimers: You’ll probably read a few things that could easily be considered “unpopular opinions” and/or overly puri...

Kill Team - Clashes in the Webway?

Image
Regarding the upcoming Kill Team box—the one that will kick off the new 2025–2026 season—there's been all sorts of speculation. Both in terms of the setting (a Necron world, a jungle, an Exodite Eldar world) and the teams involved (Necrons, Space Wolves Scouts, Deathwatch, Corsairs, Exodites, Sisters of Silence, etc. etc.). Naturally, someone will end up guessing correctly (maybe). Even the name of the box has been rumored: Dead Silence . And of course, this has only fueled further speculation, since the name of the box has almost always hinted at its contents. For example, with Hivestorm , GW played on the words " Hive " and " Storm ," and we got the Vespid and the Tempestus . So it's easy to think that the teams this time are somehow linked to the name Dead Silence . I too, in a previous article , tried to speculate based on those two words. However, in this article, I’d like to reset my knowledge of the rumors and try to evaluate only the (limited...

Kill Team: Return to the Pariah Nexus (?)

Image
Today is a day of speculation about the upcoming Kill Team Season. But let’s start from the beginning and give credit where it’s due. A few hours ago, Valrak published a video on his channel where he hinted at some information about the first box of the next Season (which will be the second of this edition). Specifically, the rumor hints at the name of the box: Dead Silence . Now, this article is based on two assumptions: A few months before the release of Hivestorm, the name of the core box was indeed leaked. So let’s pretend the name really is that. Since last time, with the prediction of the Tyranid invasion on Volkus , I (almost) got it right—why not give it another shot? DEAD SILENCE I think many people, like me, as soon as they heard the word “Silence,” thought of the Sisters of Silence. It would make sense, considering that a Talons team hasn’t been seen since the 2021 Compendium, and that GW has been giving the faction some attention (for example, with the second episode...

Kill Team 2024 – Approach to the Game (Update 06-2025)

Image
"I’m new to Kill Team. Where do I start and what should I buy?" The purpose of this article is to try to guide those approaching the world of Kill Team in the clearest and most universal way possible. Let me start by saying this: very often the best thing to do is to try a demo, watch a game, or talk in person with someone who already plays. This will allow you to see if you actually like the game (without spending money needlessly) and, if you do, to get more precise guidance on what to buy. THE STARTER SET I’ve dedicated a separate article to the question of the Starter Set, which you can find here . I recommend checking it out if you’re a new player. Otherwise, here’s a brief summary of the conclusions: "If you’re a beginner, meaning you’ve never (or almost never) played Kill Team, this is truly a great deal and I highly recommend it. However, be aware that if you want to move on to more advanced play, you’ll need to supplement it with several things (both in terms o...

Kill Team - The Tyranid Threat on Volkus

Image
On Tuesday, albeit with a guilty delay, I was reading the articles published on Warhammer Community regarding the Grand Narrative event held in Atlanta last November. It is, of course, the most important official narrative event of the year. A sort of LARP event combined with wargaming, the results of which can even change the lore of the Warhammer universe. If you are narrative players, I encourage you to learn more about it as you will find many interesting ideas, not to mention seeing firsthand the passion that organizers and participants put into it. Personally, I am not the typical narrative player but more of a competitive player who enjoys reading the lore of the Warhammer universe. Particularly of Kill Team (in fact, I believe that almost all Warhammer stories are Kill Team stories, but it’s not the right time to delve into that - Ed.). So you can imagine how surprised I was, at least initially, when I read the last page of the Grand Narrative - Vox Locanum : Well, it seems tha...
