Warhammer 40k/Kill Team - Teaser (?) Analysis from the Warhammer+ Video
A few days ago, an article was published on Warhammer Community to promote the subscription to Warhammer+.
We were also shown a video that gives a sneak peek at what (theoretically) will be the animations released on the platform.
Of course, one might be more or less interested in the type of content offered by the subscription, and this article is not intended to promote the platform (even though I am a subscriber - Ed.).
In all this, what particularly caught my attention is the final part of the video. Several members of the GW team stage this "gag" where they playfully take notes for future possible ideas, write them on a post-it, and stick them on a whiteboard. In the end, they look at each other, pleased, and say, "Yeah, let's do it!"
I've seen several videos from content creators, including Valrak's, where they try to find a logical thread in the content of these post-its and connect them to rumors and speculations. It's clear that everyone understands that many post-its are part of the "gag" and aren't serious. However, some seem more plausible as they could be linked to expected or hoped-for releases.
But there's something even more peculiar. Everyone focused on what is written on the post-its, but no one paid attention to WHERE they were attached.
I'm not crazy, I'll try to explain better.
But first, I want to make a premise.
The lore of 40k and Kill Team will somehow be linked in the near future regarding War Zone Chalnath (the setting of the next KT season).
I'm not the one saying this: it's in the description of the Grand Narrative event that will take place in Atlanta:
- "In a change from last year, Kill Team will be fully integrated into the experience! When you purchase a ticket, you will be able to choose between either Warhammer 40,000 or Kill Team. Supplementary battles and special operations are still predicted during the evening, though you now have the opportunity to play only Kill Team during the event!
This is a highly immersive and engaging Narrative experience unlike anything you have ever participated in before.
Not only will you forge life-long friendships over three days of Warhammer 40,000 or Kill Team in a gorgeous location, but you'll also help to forge the ongoing narrative of Warhammer 40,000 through your games!
That's right, the outcome of this event will impact the canon of the Warhammer 40,000 universe!"
That said, let's proceed.
INTO THE BLACK LIBRARY
The first frame that caught my eye was the one with the post-it "into the black library." As I mentioned, besides looking at the post-it, I also looked at what it was attached to.
The post-it was attached exactly to page 109 of White Dwarf 502.
The same WD that contains the article "War Zone Chalnath - The Xenowar," which gave us a preview of the upcoming 40k/Kill Team setting and the presence of the Vespid (as I had already written in this article).
Specifically, it is an excerpt from the short story "Beyond Empire."
But how to connect the Black Library to War Zone Chalnath?
Personally, I think there are two ways (one more likely and the other less so):
- If "Black Library" is understood as the publishing house, it is possible that a novel dedicated to the War Zone setting will be released. It wouldn't be the first time this happens with an edition change.
When the ninth edition of 40k was released, Indomitus by Gav Thorpe came out, while for the tenth edition, Leviathan by Darius Hinks was published. - If "Black Library" is understood as the actual Black Library of Chaos, this could have interesting narrative implications for the setting, given that it's a relatively little-known place.
Of course, we would need to understand how they could integrate it, as access to the Black Library is only possible through the Webway.
But the universe is full of unknown portals, as the Drukhari and Harlequins have taught us, and it wouldn't be too unusual to find one in the Chalnath sector.
EMPEROR'S CHILDREN
The second frame that piqued my interest is the one featuring an image of an Emperor's Children marine.
Again, an excerpt from the WD 502 article, specifically on page 99.
Making some speculations related to the rumor that suggests Fulgrim as the next Primarch for 40k, two things come to mind.:
- All the Primarchs were released through significant narrative campaigns (The Gathering Storm for Guilliman, Arks of Omen for the Lion, etc.).
So, if a series of narrative manuals related to War Zone Chalnath were to be released, this could be the opportunity for Fulgrim's appearance.
GW has been dropping hints for a while...
Fracture of Biel-Tan ("The Cacophony of Extremis Six," p. 84) |
- It wouldn't be too strange to see an Emperor's Children-themed Kill Team arrive after the Night Lords. It would be the best way to release the base troops for both systems (40k and Kill Team).
Obviously, these are just my speculations, and I have no way to verify them other than by waiting.
But it does seem like a strange coincidence that among ALL the pages of ALL the various manuals and White Dwarfs, GW decided to show us those excerpts...
We'll see.
