Kill Team - The Tyranid Threat on Volkus

On Tuesday, albeit with a guilty delay, I was reading the articles published on Warhammer Community regarding the Grand Narrative event held in Atlanta last November.

It is, of course, the most important official narrative event of the year.
A sort of LARP event combined with wargaming, the results of which can even change the lore of the Warhammer universe.
If you are narrative players, I encourage you to learn more about it as you will find many interesting ideas, not to mention seeing firsthand the passion that organizers and participants put into it.

Personally, I am not the typical narrative player but more of a competitive player who enjoys reading the lore of the Warhammer universe.
Particularly of Kill Team (in fact, I believe that almost all Warhammer stories are Kill Team stories, but it’s not the right time to delve into that - Ed.).

So you can imagine how surprised I was, at least initially, when I read the last page of the Grand Narrative - Vox Locanum:

Well, it seems that the Tyr have now infiltrated in force in the Chalnath sector.
This, for all Kill Team players, is fantastic news because it’s no secret that many have been waiting for a Tyranid team since around 2021.

After the disappointment of the absence of a Tyr team during Season 2 of the last edition (Gallowdark - what better opportunity to release Tyranids in a Space Hulk-like setting?) and their disappearance from the playable teams in the new edition, this could be the right time.

Let’s be clear, I don’t think it will be the next box (the third), but rather the last one, as I imagine the Tyranid invasion of the Kessandras System will be the climax of this Season’s lore, before moving on to a new setting (and a new Killzone) after the summer.

INQUIRIES FROM ORDO XENO

Earlier I wrote that "I was surprised, at least initially" for a reason.
The reason is that I actually realized that the clues had already been scattered here and there by GW, hidden in plain sight.

I went to retrieve some material, particularly the latest White Dwarf issues with articles on the "War Zone: Chalnath," and indeed, to use the words of Lord Inquisitor Orrin Grayle (White Dwarf 507)...

"...there exists a far higher occurrence of Genestealer infestation within the Chalnath Expanse than even the most pessimistic of data-prognostications could have predicted."

This is the list of systems and planets in the Chalnath sector where the Genestealer Cult revolts are mentioned.

Sources:

  • Psychic Awakening: The Greater Good
  • Warhammer 40k Core Book 9th edition
  • Kill Team - Chalnath
  • Kill Team 2024 Core Book
  • White Dwarf "War Zone Chalnath" (502-504-505-506-507)

And of course, this is only a partial list of what can be known.
In many cases, the words "several systems" (Satyag Frontier, Xindao Belt, Voronin Cluster, etc.) or "several worlds" are used without going into detail.

Additionally, several references are made to a highly probable large-scale invasion.

As if all this weren’t enough to suspect the possibility of seeing a Tyranid team soon, we also have another clue provided by GW.

The Lieutenant Titus Mission Pack, where we’ve already seen some profiles, although limited to PvE.

SUFFER NOT THE ALIEN TO LIVE!

Of course, every team in every box must have its antagonist.
And, if I were to follow the clues left by GW, I would bet on the Death Watch.

White Dwarf 502

Moreover, a massive intervention by the Death Watch, already justifiable with the T’au invasion, wouldn’t be impossible in the case of an attack by several Tyranid Fleets, given the proximity of the Watch Fortress Mortguard to the Chalnath sector.

Finally, the recently released Death Watch Index might already be hinting at something...

Of course, everything I’ve written is just my own speculation.
All that remains is to wait and discover the fate of Volkus.
