Kill Team - Clashes in the Webway?
Regarding the upcoming Kill Team box—the one that will kick off the new 2025–2026 season—there's been all sorts of speculation.
Both in terms of the setting (a Necron world, a jungle, an Exodite Eldar world) and the teams involved (Necrons, Space Wolves Scouts, Deathwatch, Corsairs, Exodites, Sisters of Silence, etc. etc.).
Naturally, someone will end up guessing correctly (maybe).
Even the name of the box has been rumored: Dead Silence.
And of course, this has only fueled further speculation, since the name of the box has almost always hinted at its contents.
For example, with Hivestorm, GW played on the words "Hive" and "Storm," and we got the Vespid and the Tempestus.
So it's easy to think that the teams this time are somehow linked to the name Dead Silence.
I too, in a previous article, tried to speculate based on those two words.
However, in this article, I’d like to reset my knowledge of the rumors and try to evaluate only the (limited) information that GW has actually left lying around—clues, perhaps.
Kind of like I did in the article where I speculated about the arrival of the Tyr team in the Volkus setting.
Here’s what I know:
-
Starting in 2024, Games Workshop included Kill Team in the Grand Narrative event that takes place during the same days as the World Championships (usually held in November in Atlanta).
As we know, events from the Grand Narrative contribute to the official lore of the Warhammer 40k universe. -
On June 26, 2024, an article was published on Warhammer Community that stated:
At the time, we still knew nothing about the new Kill Team setting, which turned out to be Volkus (a planet located in the Chalnath Expanse).
-
On October 3, 2024, another article revealed the full name of the event: Grand Narrative – Kessandras System.
The Kessandras System is where Volkus is located, and as we would learn in subsequent articles, the event focused on developing the lore of that system and of the Chalnath War Zone in general.
In fact, it was an excellent way to build Kill Team lore, especially given the absence of Crusade books.
Now let’s move on to 2025.
-
On February 28, they published an article listing the year’s major events.
Among them was the Grand Narrative: Into the Webway.
Once again, Kill Team was listed among the main game systems involved.
This time, however, no further information was revealed.
-
On May 28, another article was published, which stated:
So, whereas the previous year they had already confirmed the War Zone would be Chalnath (though at the time we didn’t know Kill Team would be part of the event), this time they "censored" the name.
Maybe because we already know the sector and might guess the factions involved—or maybe because it’s something entirely new and they want to surprise us.
At this point, we’re (maybe) very close to the truth, with the preview scheduled for July 18 just around the corner.
Wouldn’t you love to explore the Webway in the next Kill Team season?
